The Game Boy is turning out to be a great system to learn from. I really like working with the limited 4-colour palette and the low resolution of 160×144 pixels.
I used my jail-broken Analogue NT Mini to get the game running on my CRT TV as a reference to draw from. It displays Game Boy games in their native olive green tones -just the way I remember it.
Man, that cute little Kirby sprite turned out to be harder to draw than I expected. Using a pencil and paper, I can draw Kirby easily. But, when I tried to do it with pixels, I actually struggled at bit.
Anyone who knows the Kirby’s Dream Land 2 for the Nintendo Game Boy, probably notices my attempt isn’t perfect. The grass and clouds are off quite a bit, and I couldn’t get the clouds to look right diagonally. In the end, I just went with horizontal clouds.
